Restaurants
Cavalaire
 |
Pizza place near circle and petanque courts.
|
 |
Pizzaiole at the port: sit and eat "moules &
frites" and watch the tourists.
|
 |
Moules: if you like mussels, there is a
restaurant at the port back behind Pizzaiole that serves just
mussels. You get a big pot of mussels.
|
 |
Restaurant row: near the laundromat there is a row
of restaurants. We like the one in the middle (forgotten the
name) and also the Srilankan one at the end.
|
 |
Creperie: Across from the parking lot at the
port, eat crepes here.
|
La Croix Valmer
 |
At the circle in La Croix Valmer there is a pizza
place that makes great pizza. Grab one on your way into
Cavalaire or while you stop at the nearby market.
|
Gigaro
 |
Pepe The Pirate: at the end of road in Gigaro
before it turns left up the hill is Pepe The Pirate on the beach.
Good prices with great views of the beach and water. Note:
if you can't find a parking spot on the beach, there is a public
parking lot. Turn left at the intersection as you drive in
and then go up a short ways.
|
Gassin
 |
Pick a beautiful day and go sit on the terrace of
one of the many restaurants at the main square in Gassin.
Look out at the spectacular view over the gulf of St. Tropez as
you dine. It may not be the cheapest meal you buy, but
definitely one of the nicest. The French dine promptly at
noon until 2 p.m.
|
La Garde Freinet
 |
La Garde Freinet: La Faucado restaurant on
the main road into town. 3 Star restaurant. Eat on the
terrace if it is a nice day or inside in the beautiful interior.
The waiter speak English but may not reveal it to you. Ask
for the bottle of cognac at the end with your cheese.
They do not take credit cards. Make sure you have cash. Don't
miss the hike up to the old castle at the top of the hill with
beautiful views.
|
Food
 |
Champion: There is a big Champion food store
on the west side of town on the inbound side of the road from
Toulon (Ave. Des Allies). If you are clever, take the ramp
by the gas pump up to the upper level to park. Stick a 1 EU
coin into the slot to release one of the shopping carts. If
you buy vegetables, make sure to put it on the scale and attach a
sticker on the plastic bag before checking out. Good prices.
Try one of the cheap local wines. There is also a Champion
at the mall in St. Tropez at the circle with the McDonalds.
|
 |
Markets: The Wednesday market in Cavalaire or
Saturday market in St. Tropez is a great place to buy vegetables,
cheese, Paella, fresh olives, or other goodies.
|
 |
Rotisserie chicken is sold many places and
makes a good meal.
|
 |
Note: You will probably buy far more food
than you will actually consume during your stay. Unless it
is canned or unopened, leave nothing in the apartment. Throw
it out!
