Descendants of Jean DE LA BERGE

Notes

Rachel SAVARY

Moreover, the fact that Charles had married the daughter of a merchant from Caen may
indicate that he had attained a certain renown and authority within the community, as does the
fact that his son Pierre, born on June 22, 1653, had as godfather, and was named at his baptism,
by Pierre Baudart, esquire, an honor which the nobility did not grant to just anyone.

13. Jean DE LA BERGE

May 1635
Jean, son of
Jacques de la Berge and Marguerite Basly
28
The 17th of the month, was baptized by me, pastor, a son belonging to Jacques de la Berge and
Marguerite Basly, his wife, named Jean by Jean Ortier of Bernières, assisted by Anne Vimont,
in the presence of Philippe Adeline and others.
Marguerite Basly was the daughter of Michel Basly, and the sister of Marguerite, who
would marry Jacques Vimont in January 1637.viii Then came the contagious disease that
wrought great devastation upon the people.

Thus, on May 8, 1639, less than a year after the birth of his son Jean, born of his marriage
to Marguerite Basly, both of whom likely had died of the plague, Jacques de la Berge was joined
in matrimony a second time, to Marie Poitevin.
